“In these difficult times, solidarity measures are essential to maintain the social bond of the most fragile and isolated”. The elected communists of the city of Villejuif in the Val-de-Marne launched at the beginning of the confinement of “solidarity brigades”. Their role is to come to the aid of the elderly or sick who cannot travel to carry out basic necessities or go to the pharmacy. In one month of action, 45 volunteers came to the aid of nearly 2,000 inhabitants.

Members of the brigades also offer to make masks for traders, caregivers and seriously ill people. To date, 250 masks have been made thanks to around twenty volunteer dressmakers and fabric donations.

A distribution of masks and 1,000 gowns for nursing staff will take place on April 23 at the Paul Guiraud hospital and at the Paul Brousse hospital in Villejuif.

Partnership with pharmacists

A partnership with the town’s pharmacists enables residents to find out about the existence of these brigades. The 30 traders and the six partner pharmacists can contact the brigade directly if necessary (07.54.55.25.36) and prepare the races to facilitate the task of the volunteers.

Solidarity brigades have been created in many Ile-de-France towns on the initiative of municipalities or residents. Most often, neighbors organize themselves into buildings or residences to help those who cannot move.

In Paris, the town hall offers posters to stick in the common areas of buildings in order to share the contact details of volunteers for shopping for people in need of help.
