In Oisy in the North, a market hall transformed into an open-air polling station

In Oisy, in the Nord department, the ballot for the next departmental and regional elections on June 20 and 27, 2021 will take place under the market hall. This decision taken by the mayor of the village is motivated by the lack of space to comply with the health protocol.

“On the right the regional elections, then on the left the departmental ones and each time three ceremonial tents, the electoral list and the ballots, the voting booths and the vote”, says the mayor of Oisy Bruno Lejeune.

Usually, the inhabitants of Oisy vote in a multipurpose room, a closed room which is only 35m². Inconceivable for the mayor, in a period of health crisis. The elected representative therefore expressly requested authorization to organize the ballot outside the walls. This outdoor relocation is exceptionally authorized by the Ministry of the Interior in these times of the Covid-19 pandemic.

For the two rounds of the elections, the 500 citizens of Oisy will therefore be able to go and vote in complete safety. An organization that reassures residents. “It is a good solution because we are not yet finished with the Covid, it is more ventilated, there are less risks “, confides a resident. “Everything that is locked up scares me, it’s a good solution to do it outdoors”, another assures. And nothing will disrupt the polls, not even the weather. In the event of rain, assessors and voters will be protected by metal curtains.

A woman and six men are expected to compete in the regional elections in Hauts-de-France at the end of June. They are Xavier Bertrand (various right), Sébastien Chenu (RN), Karima Delli (EELV), Laurent Pietraszewski (LREM), Eric Pecqueur (LO), José Evrard (Debout la France) and Audric Alexandre (Pace).
