In October, 884 marriages were registered in Latvia, which is ten marriages less than in the corresponding month of 2019, according to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau.
In ten months of this year, 9.6 thousand marriages were registered in Latvia, which is 16% less than in the corresponding period of 2019 (11.5 thousand).
In October this year, 936 more people died than were born. In October 2020, 1,375 newborns were registered in civil registry offices, which is 11.9% less than in the corresponding month of the previous year. The number of registered deaths is 2,311, which is 0.9% more than in October a year ago.
On November 1, 2020, the preliminary population of Latvia is 1 million 897 thousand.
From January to October, 14.9 thousand newborns were registered, which is by 5.8% less than in the first ten months of 2019 (15.8 thousand). By October, both this year and last year, 23 thousand deaths have been registered.
Compared to the respective period last year, preliminary indicators were used in 2020, which include data on births, deaths and marriages registered in each month, and final data in 2019, where monthly data are compiled by the date of the actual event.
