In October, 5% more passengers were served at Riga Airport than in September / Article

Despite the autumn season, when the number of passengers has traditionally decreased, October has been the second most successful month for the airport in terms of the number of passengers. A larger number of passengers were served in one month in August. 390,000 passengers were then transported.

More than half or 199,000 of the passengers served in October flew with the national airline airBaltic. The Irish airline Ryanair is in second place with 67,000 passengers.

In total, Riga Airport has served 1.78 million passengers in ten months. This is a reduction of 73% compared to the pre-pandemic period.

Laila Odiņa, the Chairman of the Airport Board, emphasized: “Both the operational results of recent months and the number of destinations and flights announced for the winter season allow us to look to the end of the year and the beginning of next year with cautious optimism. International experience also shows that air traffic performs better in regions with better vaccination coverage. ”

In October, 240 cargo flights were serviced, which is 3% more than in October 2020 and 52% more compared to October 2019. Compared to 2019, the number of cargo flights has increased by 48%. The total cargo turnover in the first ten months of this year is almost 21,000 tons, only 6% less than the cargo turnover in 2019, when the largest volume of cargo was provided by cargo transportation by passenger aircraft.
