In October, according to preliminary data, both the number of accident victims and the number of injured or the total number of accidents fell significantly year-on-year this year. Compared to last October, the number of seriously and slightly injured fell by about a third to 119 severely injured and 1,437 slightly injured as of 30 October. The number of traffic accidents decreased by about a quarter to 7,350. Also for the whole period from January to October, there is a significant decrease compared to last year, both in the number of deaths, injuries and the number of accidents, mostly by about a tenth.

Among the victims of accidents in October this year, most were car drivers, who accounted for more than a third of all deaths. Bikers, who died in accidents according to the Evil Nine in October, also had a large share in the total number of deaths.

The most tragic accident this October was one of the last fatal accidents, on Friday 30 October. During the collision of a van with a truck on Friday afternoon between Chvojenec and Holice in the Pardubice region, four people died and two others were seriously injured. Today, three more people died after a car accident near Nové Hrady in the České Budějovice region.

The number of road accident victims has fallen this year in most months compared to last year. The exceptions were January and February, when the number of deaths increased year-on-year, and August, when the number of deaths was the same as last year.

However, according to the head of the traffic police, this year is very specific due to restrictions imposed by the state in connection with the covid-19 pandemic. According to him, it is difficult to evaluate the development of accident statistics. “Predicting development is very difficult,” he said.
