Tampico, Tamaulipas.-In observation of 10 suspected cases of COVID-19, the Ministry of Education maintains in Tamaulipas, where face-to-face classes have been started about 2,000 schools, out of a total of 4,300 in the state, and where there are They have invested 15 million pesos, out of the 150 million pesos they have available to support the education sector.
During his visit to Tampico, Mario Gómez Monroy, Secretary of Education in the state, reported that gradually and progressively as the Governor announced on the page of the agency under his charge, he has started with face-to-face classes.
When questioned about whether there have been cases of COVID-19 infections, he replied: “At the beginning there were some teachers in Santa Engracia, there were two schools, one primary and one secondary, and in San Carlos, some cases are currently under observation, but they have not been confirmed, we would be talking about about 10 children under observation, but they are not here in the area ”.
He stated that the 10 cases of COVID-19 have been detected throughout the state, except in the southern area.
Faced with this type of contagion, he said that they have asked teachers to follow the security protocols that were implemented and that they are very strict.
He recalled that the first filter is at home, in and out of school and in the classroom.
“The most important thing is in the classroom. There have been some students who are still at home, online, and as parents have realized that schools are safe spaces, the number of children has risen, in the first schools since we started we are at 100% ”.
He expressed that it is still the decision of parents whether or not to send their children to school.
“There are already about 2 thousand schools in Tamaulipas out of a total of 4300 in the state and they will be at 100% until the pandemic allows us, it is giving way, but we have to wait at least two weeks for us to be on a yellow or green traffic light, to be able to with the face-to-face classes ”.
He indicated that they have a total amount of 150 million pesos for the return to face-to-face classes, but since the educational establishments that have started have not been in the big cities, they still have a good amount of resources to set up schools in major cities such as Laredo, Reynosa, Matamoros, Tampico, Madero and Altamira.
“This budget is already being exercised, we started with the schools that are smaller, in the smaller municipalities and we have been supporting with water pumps, water tanks, restrooms and we are going to extend it to other cities.”
He commented that they have not used much of this resource because in the small municipalities the schools have been well maintained, out of weeds, for which they have applied 15 million pesos.
He considered that what remains for Tampico, Madero and Altamira will not be enough, but at least it will be of good help.
“It seems that the schools are abandoned because they are with herbs, but once the bathrooms are cleaned, painted and checked and the issue of water is seen, it is not so much what the schools require, in the north we will occupy more because of the meteorological phenomena that have occurred, especially in Laredo where there are many years in infrastructure, roofs, but the ITIFE brings its budget and they will be helping ”.
He added that the municipalities will also help them, because this is everyone’s job and they have to participate from the authority of the 3 levels of government, parents, government, because together they will be able to take this issue of education forward.
As for the Federation, it pointed out that it has not sent cash, but it has been supporting with other types of situations, and they committed that through the School is Our Program they will be sending resources for the handling of the sanitizer, all the material that cares for all schools.
“We are starting with a starter kit, thermometers, sanitizer and cleaning products, but this is everyone’s job.”
Finally, he pointed out that they have the last schools that have been integrated and next Monday there is something for Tampico and Madero, but they are going slowly.
