Sunday June 6, Nigerians still could not access the social network, three days after its suspension “For an undetermined time” by the government of this West African state. Several Western countries condemn this decision.
Pressure is mounting on the Nigerian government. While the social network Twitter was still suspended until further notice in Nigeria, Sunday, June 6, several Western countries condemned this decision taken by the authorities of the most populous country in Africa.
Through a joint statement from their diplomatic missions, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada, as well as the European Union, deplored, on Saturday, June 5, Nigeria’s decision to suspend Twitter.
They recalled that “The fundamental rights of freedom of expression and access to information are the pillars of democracy”, Nigerian daily reports Premium Times.
This condemnation comes on top of the wave of indignation that this suspension has aroused in this West African state. “The media and civil society leaders were the first to call on the Nigerian government to reverse this decision”, ensure the Daily Trust.
