The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, Nasser Bourita, on Monday in New York, highlighted the Moroccan initiative for the Atlantic, in a ministerial meeting chaired by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Launched in 2022 under the Rabat Process of Atlantic African States, this initiative launched by King Mohammed VI is an “ambitious” cooperation strategy aimed at peace, to promote stability and shared prosperity in the Atlantic African region, stressed Mr. Bourita, at this meeting held under the theme: “Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation”.
He confirmed that the objective of the Royal initiative is to allow African countries to take ownership of their development process, remembering that the Atlantic coast includes 23 countries and 70% of the population and gathering 40% of international trade -Africa.
This place, which is full of potential and opportunities in key sectors such as tourism and mineral resources, is also facing major challenges such as terrorism, climate change, maritime insecurity and even overfishing, he said at his this meeting which was held in the presence of several other ministers from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.
Welcoming the many important steps taken by the countries of the African Initiative to strengthen their cooperation framework, the minister recalled that a Secretariat was established in Rabat, an Action Program was adopted and in particular a Ministerial Forum was ‘ To create justice.
In this context, he announced that the Action Plans of the three thematic groups, which provide for concrete actions in the areas of security, the blue economy, connectivity, energy and climate change, will be developed at a ministerial meeting of these States in the future.
In this context, the minister welcomed the spirit of cooperation in each region of the Atlantic, South and North, noting that the Atlantic African States Process is an expression of Africa’s vision for cooperation for this place, committed to strengthening the partnership. with other initiatives with a view to a sustainable, prosperous and resilient Atlantic region.
Morocco is convinced of the need for a strong and mutually beneficial partnership to support the implementation of common goals, through effective means of cooperation, he emphasized in this regard.
“Through coordinated efforts between our enterprises, which complement each other, we will be able to better serve the interests of the Atlantic community to promote shared prosperity and stability,” said Mr. Bourita.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, also welcomed the efforts of the United States aimed at bringing together the Atlantic countries from all continents around common goals, saying he was sure that a country cannot or any continent to overcome the challenges of the Atlantic alone. .
“Morocco is delighted to have actively contributed to the American initiative by co-leading, with Angola and Spain, the Working Group on maritime spatial planning,” said the minister.
