In New York, firearms are now banned in Times Square – rts.ch

It is now illegal to walk around with a firearm in many public places in the state and New York City, including the famous Times Square, authorities announced Wednesday.

This new law concerns “sensitive places”. It was voted and signed this summer by the State of New York, led by Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul, and the city led by Mayor Eric Adams, classified in the right wing of the Democratic Party. It entered into force on September 1st.

This is a reaction of several democratic states to the “scandalous” ruling of the US Supreme Court which had enshrined in June the “constitutional right of Americans to leave their homes armed”.

City priority

“The Supreme Court decision was a gunshot that rang around the world,” said Eric Adams, a former police captain who has made fighting gun violence a priority in his tenure.

The governor of the fourth most populous state in the country added that these weapons, even “hidden” ones, will be banned from bars, libraries, schools, public services and hospitals.

These prohibitions do not apply to law enforcement.
