In New York, an installation pays tribute to David Bowie in the subway

The artistic initiative dedicated to the British icon has taken over the “Broadway-Lafayette Street” metro station.

David Bowie has left his mark on New York City, and the Big Apple returns the favor with the traveling exhibition David Bowie Is, which runs at the Brooklyn Museum until July 15, 2018. Thanks to the many archives that Bowie has left behind, the event recalls how the singer revolutionized the world of music, whether through his unique but multiple creativity, his unexpected but innovative collaborations or his puzzling but successful rebirths. A musical, artistic and even human versatility which continues to influence artists today.

To honor this imposing career, the exhibition brings together more than 400 objects that belonged to David Bowie: his original costumes, drafts of his hits, his original record covers. But also an installation mixing sounds, photographs and videos that plunges us into the heart of the artist’s life, from his beginnings in England to his conclusion in New York. Beyond this event, the museum has decided to set up an installation at the “Broadway-Lafayette Street” metro station: there are huge photos of David Bowie by Masayoshi Sukita, Mick Rock, Duffy, Markus Klinko , Lynn Goldsmith or Ron Galella, and limited edition Bowie tickets.

The museum also exhibited in Brooklyn and Manhattan various cardboard silhouettes that represent the rockstar in order to photograph them and share them on his Instagram account. A very nice tribute as a whole.
