A 19-year-old man attacked three police officers Saturday night near Times Square, stabbing them with a machete, New York authorities said. An officer responded by shooting the attacker, who was wounded in the shoulder.
The attack took place shortly after 22:00 (local time), near the area cordoned off by the police as part of the New Year’s celebrations. Without warning, the man assaulted a first policeman before turning his machete on two other policemen.
One of the victims reports a laceration, another, who has just graduated from the academy, also has a large laceration as well as a skull fracture, specifies the New York Times.
The three policemen in stable condition
The three policemen were transported to the hospital, their conditions are stable. The investigation was entrusted to the FBI. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has stated that any threat has been ruled out. He believes the individual acted on his own.
