The alleged assailant, a 25-year-old man according to police, was arrested north of Central Park
An Italian student at Columbia University was stabbed to death Thursday evening in New York by a young man, already imprisoned for violence, who then stabbed a second Italian and attacked a third passer-by.
Police confirmed the death of Davide Giri, 30, on Friday, who succumbed to his injuries in hospital after being stabbed in Harlem, near the Columbia campus. University President Lee Bollinger has confirmed the “tragic loss” of this student in the School of Engineering and Applied Science.
The Italian Foreign Ministry has also confirmed “a serial knife attack in which an Italian was killed and another injured”.
In fact, police said another 27-year-old man was stabbed to the chest. He is in a stationary state.
Gang member
The alleged assailant, a 25-year-old man, was arrested after the second attack, north of Central Park, while threatening a 29-year-old man with a knife.
The Daily News described the assailant as a member of a gang in New York’s Queens neighborhood, who had already served four years in prison and had been arrested multiple times.
