Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend the G20 summit in New Delhi in person. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the statement of the office of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, August 28.
Thus, Putin told Modi in a telephone conversation that Russia would be represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
The message noted that Modi “expressed understanding in connection with this decision.”
Earlier in August, Putin withdrew from attending a BRICS summit in South Africa in person because of an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
The G20 summit is due to take place on September 9-10 in New Delhi, and, in advance, the Kremlin was preparing Putin’s trip to India.
In August, the visit of the President of the Russian Federation to Turkey was planned, but was canceled. Today, Kremlin Speaker Dmitry Peskov said that Putin’s meeting with the President of this country, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is already being prepared.
