Siloviki disrupted the forum of regional deputies

The siloviki disrupted the United Democrats’ forum by detaining almost all of its participants. According to them, the event was organized by an “unwanted organization”.

The Russian security forces detained most of the participants in the United Democrats’ forum – independent municipal deputies, which was held in Moscow. On Saturday, March 13, reports Radio Liberty.

It is noted that among the detainees are politicians Ilya Yashin, Yevgeny Roizman, Yulia Galyamina, Vladimir Kara-Murza, Andrei Pivovarov, Moscow City Duma deputy Mikhail Timonov and others.

According to journalists, police officers came to the forum, which was held in the Moscow Izmailovo hotel, about 40 minutes after it started. The police said that all participants in the forum – about 150 people from different regions of Russia – will be detained on suspicion of participating in an event held by an undesirable organization.

Eyewitnesses report that almost all forum participants were detained. They were put in paddy wagons and taken to various police stations in Moscow.

The journalist Timur Olevsky, who led the forum as a moderator, was also detained.

Several more journalists covering the forum were detained.

The forum was held under the auspices of the United Democrats – a project supported by the Open Russia movement, which was founded by Mikhail Khodorkovsky. The founders of the United Democrats project position it as a platform for MPs of all levels to exchange experience and skills.

Recall a record number of people were detained at the end of January at the protests in Russia… The total number of those detained in different cities exceeded five thousand. They protested against the detention of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

Before that more than two thousand people were reported to be detained.
