Müller, who had shaped an era at Bayern and in the national team, died on Sunday at the age of 75. He scored 365 goals in 427 Bundesliga games, which is unsurpassed to this day. With the national team, the “bomber of the nation” became European champion in 1972 and world champion in 1974, scoring the winning goal in the final against the Netherlands in Munich. After his career, he stayed with Bayern as a youth coach for a long time.

Müller was honored in the first games after the news of his death. On Sunday afternoon, the legendary striker was remembered with a minute of silence both in Mainz before the Bundesliga game against RB Leipzig and afterwards in Cologne before the duel against Hertha BSC. In memory of their legendary goalscorer, the FC Bayern players wore warm-up shirts with the number 9 on their back and the name of the record scorer before the Supercup against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday. After a minute’s silence, there was applause from the stands for Müller.
