A worthy successor to his father, the remembered patricio Santander, Alejandro Galvis Galvis, founder of the newspaper Vanguardia Liberal (today Vanguardia), soon realized that the regions require strong, independent newspapers that are committed to local development, good politics and progress. social and business, but from a global vision.
The learning of that great journalist, political and social leader who was his father led Alejandro Galvis Ramírez to promote newspapers in cities such as Popayán, Pereira and Ibagué. In Cartagena, 38 years ago, he was received as majority partner and president of the board of directors for several years of The universal, a period during which it contributed to our newspaper taking the leap towards the technology revolution, without abandoning the founding principles of journalism and freedom of the press. His influence in our publishing house is felt in every corner and all his human talent has received, in some way, from his inspiring legacy.
His staunch defense of the ideas of humanist liberalism, of the primacy of the rights of the individual, of the freedom of business and of the press, and of free but respectful debate, as well as of the culture of truthfulness, impartiality and objectivity , steeled by courage when defending those values and fighting crime and political corruption, marked a sign that prints the character of the media and agencies that he founded, directed or led, and that the new generations , guided by Alejandro Galvis Blanco, who has succeeded him in such responsibilities, we are called to observe, preserve and promote.
Alejandro Galvis has also earned the right to be cited as an example for current and future generations of what a committed citizen can mean for his city, the region and the country. He assumed, with detachment, strength, substance and joy, the leadership of Bucaramanga and the Department, promoting the proper exercise of politics, and the formation of various business, civic and social initiatives.
He was the Colombian who has had the clearest value or importance of a strong and independent regional press, and he knew how to transmit it in a good part of the homeland, since he argued that only the local press supplies the truthful information service to citizens who need know and disseminate what is happening in their localities, neighborhoods, blocks and streets.
