“We do not trust America and you know our position. We do not trust, we do not depend on it and in no case can we accept that America is the only party to solve the problem,” Abbas told Putin at the match.

“It could be in the Quartet because it is a great country, but we will never accept it as one,” he said, referring to the United States.

Abbas’s remarks echo the Palestinian president’s longstanding suspicion of the United States, which is also Israel’s main ally. Abbas said during the meeting that he was “completely satisfied” with Russia’s position on the Palestinian people.

Russia respects justice and international law, and that’s enough for us,” said Abbas.

“When you say you support international legitimacy, that’s enough for me and that’s what I want. Therefore, we are happy and satisfied with Russia’s position,” he explained.
