Twitter Inc announced that it would be shutting down the live streaming app Periscope, which it bought in 2015, due to decreased usage in recent years and high support costs.
The mobile app has been in “an unsustainable state of maintenance” for a while, Twitter said in a blog post.
Periscope will disappear in March
Most of Periscope’s core capabilities have been integrated into Twitter and the company plans to remove it from the app stores by March 2021.
Streams that were shared on Twitter will remain as replays and users will be able to download a file.
They can do so from their Periscope streams and data before the app is removed, the company noted.

The success and downfall of Periscope
The company acquired Periscope in 2015, even before its market launch, and was one of the pioneers in offering the ability to make alive.
The App reached 10 million users in just four months of existence.
However, Twitter recognizes that its use has decreased in recent years, and “the cost of supporting the application will continue to increase over time,” as explained in a post on their official blog.
For this reason, Twitter decided to cancel Periscope, something that will take effect in March 2021. Anyway, it should be noted that no one will be able to create new accounts on the service as of its next update.
