Environmentalists have won Lyon hands down, beyond their first round expectations. The lists led by Grégory Doucet reach seven of the nine arrondissements of the capital of Gaul. This allows elected representatives of Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV) to occupy 51 of the 73 seats of the central municipal council of Lyon. Winner at 52.4% for his first electoral mandate, Grégory Doucet becomes mayor of Lyon with a comfortable majority, determined to make the city ” a reference “ environmental.
From his first speech, in the evening of Sunday, the humanitarian framework wanted to reassure the business community: “Ecology is not the enemy of the economy, it is its best ally. “ Attacked during the campaign on its credibility and on the ideological intransigence lent to the ecologists “Allies on the far left”, according to the expression of the candidate Les Républicains (LR) Etienne Blanc, Mr. Doucet declares himself “Mayor of all Lyonnaises and all Lyonnais”. And promises: “I will be the mayor who listens and delegates. “ The counterpoint of Gérard Collomb, who has finished twenty years of municipal reign in fatal isolation.
Overwhelmed by the green wave, the former interior minister was defeated in his historic stronghold of 9e district of Lyon. Camille Augey, 29, obtains 63.23% of the vote, the record score of Lyon ecologists. Unbeatable since 1995 in the popular district which has shaped his political career, Gérard Collomb, 73, is paying dearly for his ultimate strategy of alliance with the right. He wanted to block “Irresponsible Greens” preferring to merge his lists with those of the LR candidate.
Excluded from the nomination of La République en Marche (LRM), Mr. Collomb fired all fire in the last week of the campaign. During a debate on France 3, Grégory Doucet expressed the wish to extend the Fête des Lumières to the outlying districts, believing that the terrorist attacks were ” behind us “. “Terrible lightness”, accused the former interior minister.
Wind of change
But the security theme did not stem the green wave, a promise of change in a city that suffers from pollution and poor traffic. “We offered a forward-looking project, we want to give power back to the inhabitants, we want to make the ecological transition with the entrepreneurs. The candidates locked in the negative no longer print, this is the case for Collomb, it is also the far right which happily disappears from the landscape “, analysis Thomas Dossus, elected EELV in the 8e arrondissement.
