In Lyon, a symbolic work with Poutine place de la Paix

STREET ART – The symbol is strong. The street-artist Big-ben signs a new work in the streets of Lyon, entitled “L’Ogre”, and representing none other than Vladimir Poutine. While Russia invaded Ukraine a month ago, the Lyonnais were able to discover this drawing of Putin, on the Place de la Paix.

Located at the bottom of the slopes of the Croix-Rousse in the first arrondissement of the city, this place was obviously not chosen at random. Loaded with symbolism, the Place de la Paix now welcomes the man who threatens it in Europe.

Dressed in his usual costume, the head of state and of the Russian army holds in his hands the decapitated body of a dove which he seems to have just killed. Judging by the trickle of blood coming out of his mouth, he bitten off the symbol of peace like a hungry ogre. His black and frightening gaze is pointed at whoever is looking at the fresco.

Big-ben is an artist known for his committed works, or related to current events. In particular, he made a name for himself by representing the eyes of David Bowie, just after the singer’s death in 2016. In 2017, he also paid tribute to Johnny Halliday by drawing him a pair of angel wings.

He is not the only artist to take a stand on the war in Ukraine. Woskerski, Jenks, Seth Globepainter… many of them are spreading their frescoes of support for the Ukrainian people in all the cities of the world.
