Støre says to Nyhetsmorgen in NRK that there is no immediate concern about nuclear fallout in Norway, but that they are monitoring the situation.

– If one should happen in an accident, it will take about 48 hours before it arrives in Norway, he says and adds that Norway strongly condemns the attack.

– This is in line with madness to attack in this way.

The International Atomic Energy Agency says it has not measured elevated levels of radioactivity after the fire was reported after explosions at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia on Friday night.

The Norwegian Directorate for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (DSA) calls the situation serious.

– A fire at a nuclear power plant is always serious, says emergency director at DSA, Astrid Liland to VG.

She also says that they have access to Ukrainian and European measuring stations that do not show elevated levels.

– The situation is still very chaotic and unclear. There are no discharges so far, but it is not safe anyway as the situation is now, says Liland.

She states that it is now blowing eastwards and that Norway is not in the danger zone as it looks now, but that they are worried about the situation.

– The fact that the military is trying to take over these facilities is worrying. Not everyone can operate these facilities safely. We are very concerned that a serious accident could occur.

Russian forces take control of nuclear power plant

According to AFP, the Ukrainian authorities state that the nuclear power plant has been secured. After that, it was reported that Russian forces had taken control of the nuclear power plant.
