in Laval, restaurateurs have been ready for a long time

For those who plan to make a restaurant, if you do not finish your plate, you can ask the restaurant owner for a “doggy bag” to take away the leftovers. From this July 1, he is obliged to accept, it is the law. This should help fight against food waste. A new law that does not worry restaurateurs in Laval. They have already switched to the “doggy bag” for a long time.

When Yassine Kherbouche prepares his famous couscous, this manager of the restaurant “L’Eveil d’Orient” likes to serve a very generous dish. “When there is semolina, meat, customers ask us to put it in boxes to take it away and we do it often. We have special boxes, bags, everything we need“, describes this restaurateur.

Boxes, bags, wrapping film

He has been offering “doggy bags” since the beginning, for three years. This is also the case with Olivier Mazurais at the “Padiglione”. For him, no need to buy additional packaging. He uses those from his grocery store, right next to the restaurant. “It’s occasional so there is no need to stock up on extraordinary dobby bags. Usually everyone finishes their meal“, he believes.

We are increasingly fighting against waste

If there is still food on the plate, Claire Chapuis, from the “Petit Saint-Vénérand” does not hesitate to offer a “doggy bag” herself. “It is assumed that it is better for customers to bring food back, to indulge themselves in their homes rather than for it to go in the trash. More and more customers are accepting, we are increasingly fighting against waste“, explains this manager.

But there is still work to be done. According to Ademe, the French Environment and Energy Management Agency, a consumer wastes four times more food in restaurants than at home.
