On Sunday, heat records were broken in Latvia for the sixth day in a row, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center.
The record of maximum air temperature on September 27 was corrected at eight observation stations – Bauska, Dobele, Liepāja, Madona, Pāvilosta, Rīga, Rucava and Ventspils.
The highest temperature was registered on Sunday in Pāvilosta, where the thermometer bar rose to +24.6 degrees.
The record of the whole country has not been broken – the maximum air temperature on September 27, 1947 in Latvia was +24.9 degrees.
In the capital, when the air temperature reached +23.7 degrees on Sunday, the record of 1947 was corrected by two tenths of a degree.
On Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, the heat record was broken at five or six observation stations, while on Wednesday and Thursday a new record was set at 13 locations. The thermometer bar rose the highest – to +25.5 degrees – on Wednesday in Mērsrags.
It has already been reported that a cold atmospheric front with a large area of clouds will arrive from the south on Monday, rain is expected in many places, and it will rain slightly in Vidzeme on Tuesday as well. The air temperature in some places will not rise above +13 degrees, weather forecasters predict.
In the next two weeks, autumn weather is still expected. On some of the sunniest days in October, air temperatures are likely to rise slightly above +20 degrees, beating heat records. Precipitation is expected to be low.
