In lack of doctors, the pulmonology department of the Bourgoin hospital will close, in particular to the benefit of that of Vienne

A glaring illustration of the staffing problem in some hospitals. From November 4, there will no longer be a pneumology service at the Pierre Oudot hospital center (CHPO) in Bourgoin-Jallieu. There are no longer enough doctors to maintain a dedicated service, patients will be treated in internal medicine or in other hospitals including that of Vienna.

The pulmonology department of the Pierre Oudot Hospital Center in Bourgoin-Jallieu is currently monitoring around 40 patients.

However, within a few days, it will have to close its doors. This is what France Bleu Isère tells us.

The reason: a staffing problem.

“Several practitioners are leaving the hospital in Nord-Isère, departures more or less planned,” explains Laurence Bernard, director of the Groupement Hospitalier Nord-Dauphiné, of which the CHPO is part, cited by France Bleu.

As a result, the Nord-Isérois hospital is obliged to set up a new organization to welcome patients who have so far arrived in pulmonology. A number will be hospitalized in conventional inpatient departments.

However, some patients have been followed at the Berjallien Hospital Center for more than five years.

Thus, patients still cared for in Bourgoin-Jallieu will gradually have to turn to the Hospices Civils de Lyon and the Léon Bérard center in Lyon, specializing in the fight against cancer, but also hospitals in Vienne or Grenoble.

To prevent this situation, the Berjallian hospital has no longer been taking charge of new patients in the pneumology department for several months. And the hospital management is currently unable to give a date for the reopening of this service …
