On the third Sunday of Great Lent, the Adoration of the Cross and on the day of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, April 7, 2024, in the Academic Church in honor of St. John of Damascene of the Holy Intercession Men’s Monastery in Holosiiv, the Divine Liturgy was performed, which was led by the head of the correspondence department, Archimandrite Markel (Pavuk), in the co-service of the academic clergy and students in the sacred rank.
Teachers, students and pupils of Kyiv theological schools, parishioners of the Academic Church and pilgrims of the monastery also prayed during the service.
The service was broadcast on the official page of KDA on the Facebook network.
The liturgical hymns were performed by the academic choir of students of Kyiv theological schools under the leadership of the regent Hieromonk Ioasaf (Mironov).
Sermons were delivered during the divine service: after the reading of the Holy Gospel, teacher Hieromonk Oleksandr (Hrytsan) delivered the sermon, and during the sacramental verse, the 1st year student of the Academy, reader Yurii Novitskyi.
During the Liturgy, requests were made for peace on the Ukrainian land, for deliverance from the enemy, for the Lord to look upon our people and save those who are in despair and lost their homes, for the Lord to bless people of goodwill who help the needy.
Funeral prayers were also offered for all fallen Ukrainian soldiers, innocently killed during the war, and for all deceased Orthodox Christians.
At the end of the service, a rite of praise was performed in front of the icon of the holiday, after which Father Markel congratulated everyone on the feast of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Lady of Our Lady and invoked God’s blessing on everyone.
On the same day, a Liturgy was performed in the Academic Church in honor of the Nativity of the Mother of God, which was led by the vice-rector for educational and methodical work Archimandrite Filaret (Voloshyn) in the co-service of the teachers of Kyiv theological schools in the sacred dignity.
Liturgical hymns were performed by the choir of students of Kyiv theological schools.
