In Kiev, graffiti artist Banksy’s work is carved into the wall of a house; thieves caught

A work by British graffiti artist Banksy was cut from the wall of a house in Ukraine shortly after it was completed, Kyiv district police chief Andriy Nebitov said on Friday.

Banksy’s work was cut from the wall of a house in the Kyiv suburb of Hostomelya by a group of local residents. Police arrested eight people aged between 27 and 60. The organizer was a resident of Kiev, born in 1990.

The reason for their actions was not yet known.

A mural depicting a woman in a dressing gown with curlers and a gas mask was recovered intact from the crime scene. Representatives of the Ministry of Culture were invited there to decide on the future fate of the artwork.

Local residents who witnessed the incident called the police.

Several Banksy artworks were found in the Kiev suburbs in November.

Banksy confirmed in November that seven of his murals were done in Ukraine, some of them in locations badly affected by Russian air and artillery attacks: Kiev, Irpin and Borodyanka
