For two years, the malefactors “knocked out” debts using prohibited methods, sometimes threatening uninvolved people.
The capital’s law enforcement officers stopped the activities of “black” collectors who threatened their victims with violence in case of non-payment of debt. Similar threats were also received by those who had nothing to do with loans. About this on Wednesday, June 9, informs press service of the Kiev city prosecutor’s office.
According to the investigation, since March 2019, a group of people, having formed a stable criminal association, organized the activities of a collection “call center”, from which calls were made to citizens with demands to repay debts to an instant lending company.
The prosecutor’s office noted that the amount of “debts” to be paid ranged from 1.5 to 180 thousand hryvnia.
“Calls were also received by those who had nothing to do with such financial obligations. They were accompanied by threats of violence against alleged debtors and their close relatives, threats of damage or destruction of their property,” the press service said.
It is noted that law enforcement officers identified 14 persons who suffered from the actions of this group. Three defendants were informed about suspicion of coercion of citizens to fulfill civil obligations (part 3 of article 355 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Now the question of the choice of the measure of restraint for the suspects is being decided. Investigative actions continue.
Recall that in early April, President Vladimir Zelensky signed a law on collectors… The document prohibits collectors from threatening debtors and establishes clear rules that credit companies must adhere to.
It was previously reported that cyberpolice exposed a criminal group of collectorswho engaged in blackmail using pornographic content depicting debtor clients.
