If the number of patients in Lithuania exceeds all possible records, the number of beds in the COVID-19 unit will almost double in Saturday in Kėdainiai. Already 45 patients will be able to be treated here, who will be referred from Kaunas region.
As the ward expands to the second floor, scheduled care for patients will also be discontinued.
The resuscitation and intensive care unit will prepare 3 beds for coronavirus patients.

Today, in the COVID-19 ward, Kristina Šlepavičienė, an internal medicine doctor, together with her team supervises 26 patients. 25 patients are actively treated, 19 of whom received supplemental oxygen.
The resuscitation and intensive care unit already occupies 2 beds today.
According to Vilija Pipirienė, Chief Specialist of the Kėdainiai Division of the Kaunas Department of the National Public Health Center under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania, temporarily acting as the Head of the Division, there are 8 COVID-19 outbreaks in the district. Of these, 95 percent are primary cases. 26 high-risk contacts and 150 low-risk contacts were identified.
Cases are recorded in personal health care institutions, the fire service, one manufacturing plant and two educational institutions.
The specialist states that the cases in educational institutions have not spread, have been well managed and do not pose a significant risk.
“I see progress and great leadership. Everyone tries to be careful, to have less contact and to take care of the employees and students of their institution. People have become smarter, more benevolence and understanding have appeared, ”said V. Pipirienė.
“Our situation is quite good compared to the whole of Lithuania, although the numbers are gradually increasing,” said Arūnas Kacevičius, the director of the district municipality administration, about the situation in the district.
As of October 13, there are 267 people with coronavirus in the area. In the last 14 days, 657 new cases per 100 thousand population are counted. All of Lithuania, except Panevėžys, Raseiniai and Ignalina, is in the black zone.
