In June 2021, 122,300 foreign and local guests were served in Latvian tourist accommodation, which is by 4.1% less than in June 2020 and by 68.9% more than in May. But the number of Latvian guests, compared to June last year, has increased by 36.5%, according to the Central Statistical Bureau.
Guests spent 213,700 nights in tourist accommodation, which is 11.8% less than in June last year and 51.9% more than in May.
In June 2021, 20,900 foreign guests were served in tourist accommodation establishments, which is by 60.8% less than in June 2020 and by 52.4% more than in May. The number of nights spent decreased by 62.9% to 40,400.
Compared to June 2020, the number of Latvian residents served has increased by 36.5% and was 101,400. The number of nights spent by local guests has increased by 30% and was 173,200.

In the 2nd quarter of 2021, 246,900 foreign and local guests were served in Latvian tourist accommodation establishments, which is by 44.6% more than in the 2nd quarter of 2020, however, it is 3.2 times less than before the pandemic in the 2nd quarter of 2019. .
Guests spent 457,800 nights in tourist accommodation establishments, which is by 22.6% more than in the 2nd quarter of the previous year. The average length of stay of guests in tourist accommodation was 1.9 nights.
In the 2 nd quarter of 2021, only 17.5% or 43,200 of all guests served in tourist accommodation establishments were foreign guests, which is by 30.4% less than in the 2 nd quarter of the previous year. The number of nights spent decreased by 38.8% to 97,700 nights.
Most foreign guests were received from Lithuania (6900), Estonia (4500), Germany (3900), Russia (3500), Poland (2400) and the United Kingdom (2000).
Of the foreign guests, 36.6% or 15,800 were from neighboring countries – Lithuania (16%), Estonia (10.3%), Russia (8.2%) and Belarus (2.1%).
The decrease in the number of guests from Lithuania and Estonia in the second quarter of 2021 can be explained by the so-called Baltic Bubble created in mid-May 2020, when restrictions on cross-border travel between the Baltic States were lifted. In turn, this summer, residents have more opportunities to travel to other countries.
Most foreign guests were received in Riga – 73.5%, Jurmala – 7.3%, Liepaja – 5% and Ventspils – 1.4%. In the 2 nd quarter of 2021, 203,700 Latvian residents were served in tourist accommodation establishments, which is by 87.3% more than in the 2 nd quarter of 2020. The number of nights spent increased by 68.5% year-on-year to 360,100. The most popular accommodation places for Latvian residents were in Riga, where 18.6% of guests stayed, in Jurmala – 10.3%, in Liepaja – 8.1%, in Kuldiga region – 4.4%, in Ventspils – 3.4%, in Daugavpils – 3.1 % and in Roja region – 3%. In the 1st half of 2021, 378,100 guests were accommodated in Latvian tourist accommodation establishments – by 33.7% less than in the 1st half of 2020. The number of nights spent decreased by 39.6% and was 718,600.
