In July, the Early Music Festival / Article / LSM.lv will take place in Riga and Rundāle

“Latvijas Koncerti” invites to the concerts of the Early Music Festival, which will take place on July 16 in Riga and on July 18 in Rundāle. The concerts will feature Renaissance and Baroque music.

In an announcement to the media, the organizers informed that the audience was waiting for a meeting with the Latvian Radio Choir and conductor Kaspars Putniņš, the State Chamber Orchestra “Sinfonietta Rīga”, which will play under conductor Andris Veismanis, as well as violinist Kristīne Balanas. Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “Thumb” will be introduced to the musical sounds for children in the concert.

The concerts of the festival will also be available on the Internet, hosted by the popular Latvian musician, co-founder of the group “Instruments” – Jānis Šipkēvics.

The Riga concert of the Early Music Festival “Baroque and Renaissance masterpieces” will take place on July 16 at 21.00 in Riga Dome Cathedral. The Latvian Radio Choir, conducted by Kaspars Putniņš, will perform compositions by Johann Sebastián Bach, Thomas Luis de Victoria and Jososk de Pré. The organ stabules of the Riga Dome Cathedral will be under the care of the organ virtuoso, winner of the 2019 Grand Music Prize Aigars Reinis.

On July 18, children will be welcomed at Rundāle Castle by the heroes of Andersen’s well-known fairy tale “Thumb”, who are dressed in gorgeous costumes, sing the message of the fairy tale and dance to the music of Mark Antoine Sharpantier. Soloists – Marlena Keine, Evija Martinsone, Mihails Čulpajevs, Kārlis Rūtentāls will take part in the musical production; vocal group Abaronin Ensemble; instrumental music ensemble led by Lāsma Melder-Šestakova; Students of NMV Riga School of Choreography and Riga Dome Choir School. The concert will take place in the White Hall at 13.00.

At 22.00 in the White Hall of Rundāle Castle, the Early Music Festival will traditionally end with Antonio Vivaldi’s violin concert cycle “Seasons”, which has experienced countless recordings and interpretations all over the world, thus “Seasons” can be called one of the most popular opuses of classical music. Seasonal moods will be performed by “Sinfonietta Rīga”, conductor Andris Veismanis and musicians whose violin playing at the Berlin and Paris Philharmonic, Barbeck Center in London and other prestigious concert halls – performed by Kristine Balana. The concert will feature works by Christoph Willibald Gluck, Jean-Philippe Ramo, George Philippe Teleman.

The Early Music Festival is supported by the Riga City Council and the State Cultural Capital Foundation.
