A private Japanese company conducted a study to verify the popularity of the symbols of different companies in the country. Probably the most edifying observation from this survey is that Pokemon it is more recognized than Mario in the land of the Rising Sun.
Last October, the Nippon Research Center (NRC), a local private company, conducted a survey on the popularity of business symbols. Among these, as pointed out VG247 , there were pets and video game characters, among others.
The study was conducted with 1,200 people aged 15 and 79 living throughout Japan. You can now see the full results in the NRC official website , in Japanese, or wait a moment to learn the main lessons of this survey, in French.
Pokemon more recognized than Super Mario in Japan, but little by little
The investigation was not limited to Japanese companies, as US giants KFC and McDonald’s were also mentioned. And if we focus on the part of the survey where five virtual characters were introduced to respondents, we see that Pokemon got the best recognition rate and also the highest percentage of favorable impressions. >
In detail, Pokemon is at the top of the ranking of the most recognized characters compared to Super Mario Bros., Dragon Quest, LINE (application) and Final Fantasy. Note that the leader has a rate of 83% against 82% for his dolphin, a crippling difference.

In the favorable impressions ranking, the three figures Best prices remain the same, and LINE and Final Fantasy for having changed their respective places. And although it appears in the two best places, Pokemon and Super Mario Bros. here show favorable rates of 12 and 11%.
Scores that one could qualify as maddening if the Pokemon games and the different iterations of Mario, whether on mobile phones or consoles, did not experience a more or less insolent success each time they were released. A situation that, for example, can be verified once again if the rumors of the remakes / portages of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy Switch are true.
