The phenomenon manga was recently used as part of a blood donation campaign in Japan, prompting several hundred people to come and do a good deed.
Demon Slayer cumulates the feats of arms for a few weeks. After making its opening the highest grossing music of the year in Japan, the anime this time allowed fans to do a good deed, by donating blood. In Tokushima on Shikoku Island, the Red Cross and local authorities had the good idea to promote their latest blood drive through the characters in the manga. By donating blood, the Japanese were able to leave with a collector’s poster of the animated series.
To say the least, the initiative has borne fruit. According to the local magazine Livedoor News, only 464 people had given blood in April. A figure down compared to previous months, undoubtedly impacted by the health crisis of covid-19. Real communication blow or coincidence of the calendar, in May after the launch of the campaign involving Demon Slayer, the number of donors in Tokushima province increased to 1,701. A significant increase of over 300% compared to the previous month. Note however that if Demon Slayer is undoubtedly no stranger to this sudden craze, the Kotaku site recalls that at the same time, the local festival Machi Asobi, also specialized in manga and anime, also encouraged the Japanese to donate blood.
