The diocese in Sicily insists that Bishop Antonio Stagliano was not going to break the dreams of children two weeks before Christmas.
On the island of Sicily, the Roman Catholic Diocese has publicly apologized after its bishop told a group of children that Santa Claus does not exist. It is reported by Associated Press.
The Diocese of Noto, in a Facebook post and commentary, insisted that Bishop Antonio Stagliano had no intention of destroying the children’s dreams two weeks before Christmas.
The director of public relations, Rev. Alessandro Paolino, said Stagliano was trying to highlight the true meaning of Christmas and the story of Saint Nicholas.
“First of all, on behalf of the bishop, I express my regret at this statement, which disappointed the youngest, and I want to point out that Monsignor Stagliano’s intentions were completely different,” Paolino wrote to the diocese’s Facebook page.
Italian media quoted Stagliano as saying that Santa does not exist and that his red suit was created for advertising.
Earlier it was reported that the Finnish Santa Claus, better known as Joulupukki, visited the vaccination point from coronavirus in Rovaniemi.
