In Italy, an unusual sight shark “with the snout of a pig” shocked the sailors who caught it.
A strange animal was discovered by naval officers in the waters off the city of Portoferraio on the Italian island of Elba, writes Mirror.
When they pulled him out of the water, it turned out that it was a shark, but it looked unusual and seemed to be a mutant. The face of the animal looked more like a pig than a shark to eyewitnesses.
However, in the end, the animal was identified as a triangular shark – cetrina (Oxynotus centrina), which is really called a pig shark.
Typically, these sharks live in the eastern Atlantic Ocean at depths of up to 777 meters. They are vulnerable species. They feed mainly on polychaete worms. The largest known pig shark reached a length of 1.5 meters.
Earlier in Australia decided to “rebrand” sharks… Attacks by these animals there now tend to be called “incidents”, “interactions” or “negative encounters”. The authorities and scientists believe that this will help rid sharks of the image of cannibals.
