In Italy, after Mussolini, the extreme right came to power; Prime Minister Georgia Meloni | Giorgia Meloni: the Italian far right wins the elections – exit poll

After Mussolini, a far-right nationalist government came to power in Italy. Exit polls suggest right-wing leader Georgia Maloney will become the first female prime minister. Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party is expected to win between 41 and 45 percent of the votes. You are likely to get around 230 seats in the lower house of Parliament and around 120 in the Senate.

Rival Entiko Letak is likely to get only 21 to 26 percent of the vote. Meanwhile, at the end of the voting, voter turnout in Italy was only 64.7 percent, up from 74 percent last time. The polls were very low in the southern regions, including Sicily.

If the exit polls are correct, Maloney’s would be the largest right-wing government since World War II. For the first time since Mussolini, a far-right government came to power. In the 2018 elections, Meloni’s party managed to get only four percent of the votes.
