This took place on the way to the Vaishno Devi Temple in Indian-administered Kashmir. Located in the mountains about 60 kilometers from the city of Jammu, this temple is one of the most important Hindu shrines and is visited by millions of pilgrims every year.
A police spokesman told reporters that the crowd had erupted at one of the entrances to the sanctuary when a quarrel broke out between the pilgrims and they began to push each other.
“People coincided,” an eyewitness told AFP.
Access to the temple was temporarily suspended but later restored.
