The Covid-19 had been right about the Pride last year. But this Sunday, June 13, 2021, thousands of people found themselves at Little for a festive and protesting LGBTQI Pride March. Our report on the spot.
A protest march …
This year, it is not Fiertés Lille Pride, an association which has organized the parade every year for more than 20 years, which is in charge, but many associative, union and political structures and activists motivated to march despite the health context. .
“The issue of violence against LGBTQI is not resolved, far from it,” said Nathan, a student participating in the demonstration. He lists, in a jumble: “aggressions of course, but also conversion therapy, institutional violence particularly towards transgender people, the minimum PMA that this government is proposing to us …”
The government which was well in the sights. Between a few “ACAB” (an anti-police slogan) and slogans for the PMA, we also hear “Darmanin, resignation! Blank, resign! Macron, resignation! “.
“We have the impression that under Macron, LGBTQI issues have been taken a bit into the second or even third plan”, judge Marie, teacher. “In the end, we haven’t talked much about our struggles in recent years. What happened against homophobic violence? What reactions were there after the suicide of a transgender high school student in Lille? “

… But also festive!
To the very multiple demands of walking, was especially added a festive atmosphere. The procession, very young, did not lack energy to dance, sing, kiss … The barrier gestures seemed far away, as during the LOSC celebratory gatherings. “We need contact! It’s been months since I saw some friends, ”assumes Emma after a huge collective hug with her friends.

Without a chariot, but with a batucada and a few small enclosures, the procession therefore moved the Boulevard Victor-Hugo and the district of Wazemmes. The residents at the windows looked amused or encouraged the crowd of demonstrators happy with these signs of support.

On the road, each bus shelter, construction machine or statue became a high point to climb to shout slogans, kiss and show off. “It’s a way of reclaiming the public space of which we have been deprived for months because of the Covid”, analyzes a union activist.

It is therefore without incident that the procession, composed of 5,000 people according to the police, probably more, marched to Place Casquette. Cap much needed under the blazing sun.
