Everyone knows the world famous Mattel doll, Barbie. Marketed by the toy company starting March 9, 1959, alongside the doll we find the famous Ken (not the warrior), but Barbie’s “boyfriend”.
Introduced to the market in 1961, Ken initially showed up in a bathing suit and a black hair and, since its debut, it has been presented in 40 different versions. The two Mattel creations even have a story: their love was born in 1961 on a television set, but on February 13, 2004, after 43 years of engagement, Barbie and Ken decided to separate.
That of the toy company is the best selling doll in the world and flagship of his production company. It is estimated that over a billion Barbies have been sold in at least 150 countries since her incredible market debut; according to Mattel, about three Barbies are sold per second.
Ken is now usually represented blond, although he sometimes appeared with brown hair. However, the original Ken, like Barbie, had black hair instead. Compared to Barbie, her “companion” hair is made from a single mass of plastic, rather than as individual strands, and is part of the same piece that makes up the head.
Mattel also created a doll with the likeness of Samantha Cristoforetti.
