In Helsinki, a film made entirely with artificial intelligence will be shown – 2024-09-26 02:07:55

The Love & Anarchy film festival, which started on Thursday, once again offers a wide range of film experiences from around the world.

Viggo Mortensen and Vicky Krieps are seen as lovers in The Dead Don’t Hurt, a thriller set in the 1860s. LOVE & ANARCHY

This year at the Love and Anarchy film festival, a quite exceptional film will be shown. This is a concept artist Kevin Aboschin a movie created with artificial intelligence called Am I? This is Abosch’s first feature film.

The novelty film considers how humanity is in danger of losing its humanity when machines take over society.

There has been a lot of talk recently about the use of artificial intelligence in filmmaking.

– In terms of the future of film, artificial intelligence is both a threat and an opportunity, as is already widely thought in the industry. It’s a tool that we’re just now learning to use and it’s not a revolutionary magic wand, the artistic director of the festival Pekka Lanerva says to Iltalehti.

– We have already seen horrors scripted by chat gpt. It must also not be a means of saving human resources for those aiming for cheap bulk production, and therefore also needs extensive regulation. Kevin Abosch is an artist who looks for new artistic possibilities with the help of artificial intelligence to realize his artistic visions, Lanerva reflects.

Compared to the early years of the R&A Festival, people today spend more and more of their free time on video games and streaming series. Nowadays, many films are also released for direct viewing on streaming services at the same time around the world, without necessarily going through a cinema at all.

How do you see the importance of a traditional film festival in such a changed world?

– It is for those mentioned reasons that the importance and need for festivals like R&A is highlighted. The festival can offer events. In the events of the festival and in the twilight of the cinema, you can reach the palpable community of the audience, a unique cinema experience in the company of a like-minded and passionate audience. The festival also offers an opportunity to meet filmmakers and hear their stories about making films. The audience also has the opportunity to test their own limits; either dive into the festival’s versatile offering spontaneously or choose films that suit their own interests, Lanerva says.

Over the years, the R&A has been visited by numerous well-known filmmakers, including a British one Danny Boyle with his first film and an Australian director Baz Luhrman.

– Luhrman got excited about the band Cleaning Women at the opening party organized at Kaapelitehta, even to the extent that he inspired the group that traveled with him to take a dip in the sea in front of Kaapelitehta, that is, in September, Lanerva recalls.

Lanerva points out that there is a huge amount of work involved in arranging and organizing a festival, which the average festival-goer might not think of.

– The R&A is organized annually by a large group of volunteers, this year too there are more than 200 of them, many of whom want to support the realization of the festival with their work. They are an essential part of the R&A community, without which an event of this scale would not even be possible.

– The public’s strong support was again shown in a heart-warming way in the popularity of our support campaign last year. It showed that so many people think we are doing valuable work. This is something that, when struggling with financial constraints and restrictions during the pandemic, you can forget yourself, and I am very grateful for that reminder and support, says Lanerva.

Here are five tips from the wide range of the festival:
