The legendary “Skroderdienām Silmači” is celebrating three remarkable anniversaries this year. 120 years since Rūdolfs Blaumanis wrote the play, 100 years since its premiere at the National Theater and 35 years since the first grand open-air performance of the play took place in Druviena. Probably, otherwise the anniversaries would be celebrated with a wide scope, which is not possible this summer. However, the organizers of the cultural life of Gulbene region have found their original solution – the event “Tailors’ Days under the Starry Sky”, during which the recording of the first Druviena performance is shown on the big screen in various places of the region.

The show took place in the summer of 1986 and was watched by more than 10,000 spectators from all over Latvia.
This summer’s series of events began on June 6 in Tirz and will continue until June 23. The recording of the show will be shown in 17 places in Gulbene region.
On Sunday evening, there is a cozy and romantic atmosphere at the Tirza Culture House. The evening is warm and pleasant, with a bonfire, and on the big screen, with two bushy lindens in the background, shows the first recording of Druviena’s open-air show wrapped in legends.
Some of the spectators sit right there in the meadow, but some of the recordings of the show are watched from their cars. Among the spectators is also the organizer of the event, the head of Druviena Culture House Valda Putene. She says that even before the time of Covid-19, it was planned to celebrate Druviena’s performance for 35 years with a very real show, which, of course, is not possible now.
“But, of course, these times and illness, also in the theater of change, changed these plans. You may also need to get a feel for the new director to understand what it means to perform in the countryside. And then the head of our cultural department suggested that the recording of the very first show from June 22, 1986, should still be shown. We will show the record in all parishes. Let’s hope that it will be as nice as tonight in Tirza, there will be no rain and we will be able to watch, ”says Valda Putene.
