In Greece, clashes with the police / Day occur during student protests

The demonstration, which was initially peaceful, was attended by about 7,000 people.

However, a large group of about 100 people began to scatter the police with various objects and so-called Molotov cocktails.

One protester suspected of using a fireball has been arrested. The detainee was taken to the hospital because of injuries from the Molotov cocktail. The police officer who detained him also suffered.

About 2,000 students had also taken to the streets of Athens, but the demonstration in the capital took place without incident.

The Conservative government’s decision to allow police to maintain order on campuses has provoked many protests in recent months, some of which have escalated into violence.

For decades, police access to Greek university campuses has been severely restricted.

However, the Conservative government points out that university campuses have become a haven for criminals and violent protesters because of these restrictions.

The opposition, meanwhile, says the government is using the Covid-19 pandemic to expand police powers.
