In Germany, another record increase in the number of coronavirus cases has been recorded in the last 24 hours, with more than 11,000 new infections confirmed for the first time in a day, the Robert Koha Institute said on Thursday.
11,287 new cases of coronavirus were registered during the day, but the previous antirecord was reached on Saturday, when 7,830 cases were confirmed.
In Germany, coronavirus infections are now more common during the day than at the beginning of the pandemic in March.
Lothar Wheeler, president of the Robert Koha Institute, said on Thursday that Germany was facing a very serious increase in infections.
The virus can still be brought under control through “systematic adherence to restrictive measures,” Wheeler said. “Overall, the situation has become very serious.”
In Germany, almost 400,000 people have been infected with the new coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic, and almost 10,000 have died from Covid-19.
