Germany said that the issue of Ukraine’s entry into NATO not currently on the agenda. At the same time, the North Atlantic Alliance confirmed their positive attitude towards the country and assured that it would become a NATO member.
This was stated by the representative of the Cabinet of Ministers of Germany Ulrike Demmer during a briefing on Friday, June 11. So she answered a question from journalists about whether the German government understands Russia’s concern about Ukraine’s possible accession to NATO. (scroll to the end to watch the video).
“You know our attitude towards Ukraine, its significance and our efforts in Ukraine, but the issue of joining NATO, as we have already said, is not on the agenda,” the politician said.

At the same time, Alexander Vinnikov, head of the NATO Office in Ukraine, at the Youth Security Forum noted that the Alliance countries support Ukraine in its pursuit of democratic values, but the timing of our state’s entry into NATO is still not known.
According to him, this will happen “in due time.”
Vinnikov recalled that at the Bucharest summit it was determined that Ukraine and Georgia would become NATO members, this was confirmed at a number of summits, and this will be confirmed at the next summit, which will be held on June 14.
“No one can say when Ukraine will join NATO, but we are confident that Ukraine and you, as the future, will make every effort to intensify reforms and transform the country,” he said.
Recall: a day earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky phoned the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. Politicians discussed the situation in Donbass. The President of Ukraine asked Stoltenberg to take effective steps to contain Russia’s aggression.
The NATO summit will take place in Brussels on June 14. It will also discuss the Ukrainian issue, but at the same time representatives of our country were not invited to it. The Cabinet noted: this due to the fact that the format of the event involves the participation of only member countries Alliance.
