In Germany, one of Europe’s largest brothels in the world goes bankrupt due to Covid-19

As a result of the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, one of Europe’s largest brothels has gone bankrupt in Germany.

The brothel “Pascha”, housed in a ten-storey building, has so far been known as one of the most remarkable places in Cologne.

“We are through,” Armin Losheid, director of the institution, told the local newspaper “Express”.

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, prostitution has been banned in North Rhine-Westphalia.

In addition to about 120 prostitutes working in the brothel, Pascha also employs about 60 people, from chefs to hairdressers.

Losheid has been critical of the German authorities’ methods of dealing with the pandemic. He is particularly negative about the inability of officials to set specific deadlines for companies to resume their work.

“We can’t plan in these circumstances. We could have prevented the bankruptcy with the help of the banks if we could have promised that things would start to happen again early next year,” the brothel director said.

He added that people still trade in sexual services during the pandemic, but do not pay taxes for it.

In 2006, Pascha attracted media attention when threatened by Islamic extremists, as a billboard was placed on the brothel’s firewall displaying the flags of 32 football World Cup members, including Iran and Saudi Arabia, next to a half-naked woman.

There are fears that the closure of brothels will make the work of prostitutes more dangerous, as they will be forced to go underground.
