A Berliner will hand out tickets to children. He promised his late wife to donate his savings to help animals and children.

German pensioner Horst Eschler, a native of Westphalian Münster, who lives in Berlin, bought 33,333 tickets to the Münster zoo – Allwetterzoo Münster, to distribute to children through schools and kindergartens. A few weeks ago, he also donated € 750,000 to the zoo, a record one-time donation in his history. According to the German media, the pensioner promised his deceased wife to donate their savings to help animals and children, which he is doing now.

Zoos and pandemics

During second lockdown Munster Zoo was closed for four months – until March 8. Now open to families and individual visitors, subject to prophylactic requirements. Group visits are not yet available. The administration hopes that such an opportunity will appear by the beginning of the summer holidays.

Zoos in Germany are in great need of donations at the moment, as due to two lockdowns they had no income from ticket sales for a long time and did not receive any other proceeds. At the same time, the cost of feed and animal maintenance did not decrease.
