Several students from the Arizona village, in the municipality of Baraya Norte del Huila, get on a ‘garrucha‘, at a height of 30 meters above the Cabrera River, to reach his school, which is located in the municipality of Alpujarra, Tolima.

Nidia Osorio, president of the community action board of the Arizona village, indicated that “there is no school transportation for Baraya, there are few young people who study in this populationmost of them are in the Alpujarra school, in Tolima”.

However, students cross this area every day in order to attend school and this is the only way they have to get around. There is no security and it is orderly as They climb up and hold on to the ties to be able to get to the other end where the route that takes them to school is.

And it is that from very early on they are located in the area where the Las Delicias bridge would be at the Alpujarra crossing, and where the ‘garrucha’ is currently located, the students are mobilized by this transport alternative and high risk. In turn, different agricultural products are also transferred by this means in order to be marketed.

Isidro Nieto, mayor in charge of the municipality of Baraya, indicated that the bridge located over the Cabrera River is indeed a work that has been covered with resources from the departments of Huila and Tolima. for six years. There have been several difficulties due to thousands of situations presented by administrative issues between the governments, the works have not been carried out.

“The bridge that must be built is the responsibility of the two departments of Huila and Tolima. The Las Delicias bridge was knocked down in order to start the construction of the new bridgeHowever, several years have passed and it is not over,” he said.

Given this situation, the community continues to demand that the bridge be built and that mobility between the two departments be improved, for the benefit not only of the students, but also of the agricultural and commercial sector.
