The Gabonese Prime Minister, Raymond Ndong Sima, wants the transition to not exceed two years. “It is good to start with a reasonable objective by saying: we want to see the process completed in 24 months so that we can return to elections”he told AFP on Sunday.

During his swearing in on September 4, the president of the transition, General Brice Oligui Nguema, promised to “hand over power to civilians” at the end of the transition by “new free, transparent and credible elections in social peace”.

But he has still not commented on the duration of the transition, while his head of government is counting on a period “slightly higher or lower” at 24 months. Raymond Ndong Sima was appointed transitional Prime Minister on September 7. Two days after his appointment, he unveiled the new government made up of former ministers of deposed President Ali Bongo Ondimba, former opponents, soldiers and civil society actors. Which government was reorganized a day later, with the appointment of activist Laurence Ndong as Minister of New Technologies, Information and Communication.

Raymond Ndong Sima affirmed that he wants to form a government “inclusive”, integrating “all Gabonese people” whatever their political family. “What I want is for as many people as possible to be involved so that the process is inclusive”, he said. But none of his former associates from the Alternance 2023 platform which brings together several opposition leaders appear in this government.

According to the Transition Charter, members of the provisional government cannot stand in the next elections. But this ban does not apply to the president of the transition.
