In front of the camera – Zwettl becomes a film location

Adrian Goiginger is currently active again as a director. After “The Best of All Worlds”, he filmed the true story of a young Austrian soldier who met a fox pup during World War II and, through his intimate friendship with him, found faith in love. Goiginger settles part of the film in Zwettl.

In this film, which will be released in cinemas in 2022, the successful director tells the true story of his Pinzgau great-grandfather Franz Streitberger, who was integrated into the Wehrmacht as a young motorcycle courier in the Austrian Armed Forces. At the beginning of the war, the introverted young soldier meets a wounded fox pup, which he cares for and which he takes with him to occupied France.

And Goiginger relocates exactly one part of France to the Waldviertel, i.e. to Zwettl. “It looks exactly the way we need it for our film. Here we find a river and an old bridge. That fits perfectly ”, Goiginger emphasizes to the NÖN.

Fan of the landscape, but also of the beer

He has already been there himself – for the first time, by the way – and has carried out rehearsals. “I am really fascinated. Zwettl Abbey is a really exciting location with a historical background. ”For the film“ The Wolf ”, this area is also“ historically ”adapted and set back in time of war. According to Goiginger, even the street signs for the filming are going away. “We are also filming a train of prisoners of war here, which we are sure to find exciting,” reveals Goiginger, who definitely wants to treat himself to a few days’ vacation in Zwettl. “The area is great, the beer tastes great. But I already knew that before I came to Zwettl. “

The film “The Wolf” is to be shot in June. It started on April 21st. There are scenes for this in North Rhine-Westphalia, on the island of Amrum, in the St. Pölten area, in Zwettl and in Pinzgau, where his great-grandfather lived. Even as a teenager in Saalfelden, Adrian Goiginger was fascinated by the touching friendship between his great-grandfather and the fox. Even then, the plan came up to make a script out of it. Now, after years of intensive preparation, the project is being realized as a cinema film.

Simon Morzé can be seen in the role of Franz Streitberger. Karl Markovics is one of them.

“For me, a big dream is coming true. My great-grandfather turned 100 and until his death in 2016 he told me the tragic and hopeful episodes from his life. I have great expectations of this film, it’s a big project too, ”says Goiginger.
