In Flanders, blood reserves are dwindling to an alarmingly low level

Federal Minister of Health Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit) appealed to the population: “Come donate blood again!” About two weeks ago, the Flemish Red Cross had already rung the alarm bells on this issue, as spokesman Deman notes: “The appeal caused a reaction, but at Belgian level the situation has not yet improved.”

The situation is described as a “critical situation”: “We normally have a permanent supply for a working week, but that is no longer possible. It has never happened in Flanders that a patient does not get blood, but calls like this are precisely to ensure that something like this can always be avoided.”
