Paris, July 26, 2024 – Pharrell Williams, the creative mind behind Louis Vuitton menswear, carries the Olympic flame to the top of the Basilica of Saint-Denis, sending a signal of unity for the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games.
At the final leg of the Olympic torch relay in France, French journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi and actress Laëtitia Casta pass the flame in a ceremonial “torch kiss” in front of the impressive Basilica of Saint-Denis. Pharrell Williams takes over, creating a symbolic bridge between Paris and Los Angeles. At the top of the Basilica, he raises the torch in front of an enthusiastic audience, paying tribute to the values of excellence and universality – values that are equally important to Louis Vuitton. He then passes the flame to the “Guardian of the Flame”, who places it safely in a lantern to preserve it until the opening ceremony.
Pharrell and the other torchbearers exit the Basilica through the archway, and he places the extinguished torch in the stylish Louis Vuitton torch case, specially designed to protect, transport and display the torch. This moment marks not only the end of the last leg of the torch relay, but also the end of an epic journey undertaken by around 10,000 torchbearers since May 8 from Marseille.
